Roaches

German cockroaches are the most common roach that you see in apartment buildings, restaurants, and hotels. They thrive in moist, dark, and warm environments.  You mostly see them at night.  If they are seen during the day, that is a sure sign of a serious infestation. The first step in combating german cockroaches is to keep your house clean and tidy.  That way when you, or a pest control professional, apply chemicals and baits, the roaches will go straight for the bait because there’s no other food source distracting them.

These roaches are often referred to as water bugs and black beetles. They are larger roaches that are either very dark brown or black in color. They feed on decaying wood and live in moist areas like drains and around trash cans where rainwater can build up. Although, they are mostly seen outside, they may venture indoors during long periods without rain.   Keeping leaves and mulch from sitting right up against your home’s foundation can help avoid attracting them to your home.

American cockroaches are reddish-brown and the biggest of these three main roaches. They can be 1.5 inches or larger.  Adults have wings and can fly but don’t do it very often. Just like other roaches, american cockroaches thrive in warm, moist environments.  They are usually found in sewers and drains, but will come inside homes and restaurants if they can find access. American cockroaches carry bacteria and can cause serious contamination if an infestation is not handled promptly.
